What is a creditor?

A creditor is anyone who has claim to your assets. A creditor can be someone you owe money to in the regular course of living, someone who has a judgment against you (a.k.a. a ‘judgment creditor’), an ex-spouse, the IRS or other government agency, or a bankruptcy estate.
